As as child I remember Thanksgiving dinner was more traditional in the household I grew up in. From the turkey to the cranberry sauce, the meal was everything you would expect in a Norman Rockwall Saturday Evening Post cover illustration.
After my siblings and I were adults we would return home to wherever our parents were for the holidays. Sometimes it coincided with a family reunion and other times it was just the nuclear group. In those latter times the meals became more fun. We’d always have the homemade bread, but the main courses started to range from King Crab Claws (when those were plentiful), salmon, lasagna, or whatever we fancied.
The point became less traditional tradition and more this is fun, lets do this. Whatever made it worthwhile, I’m glad things change.
