What to do when motivation is lacking

I’m sure I’m not the first nor last person ever to have the issue of a lack of internal motivation or direction. It’s easy to get caught in a rut of doing the same thing day in and day out. The real problem is finding the inspiration or passion needed to push into the next stage.

There is an old quote; “Motivation is fleeting, discipline is unyielding.” I have no idea where I heard that from or if I even quoted it properly. Like every inspirational quote it sounds great, but in practice I challenge anyone to use it as a real mantra for life. I’ll be the first to admit when i do something every day it’s easier to do and I get better at it. I’ll also be the first to admit that when you toss in a pinch of ADHD its easy to fall off that pattern and not get back to it for months!

That basically identifies one of the issues. Staying consistent. Once there is that little dopamine rush along with completing something it helps immensely. Everyone can use a Pavlov brand cowbell to get them drooling more. And that also goes with the concept of making. When making something it’s important to complete that said something. You’ll have the chemical ding in your brain when you do and be wanting it again and again.

So where are we now? Now we’re at the point where you and I complete something like this little rant to move forward on. Get that jolt and do the next thing.
