Thanks for Injuries

Every now and then we hurt ourselves, badly. I’m pretty much in a constant cycle of training for something. Thanks to the frequency of all the workouts statistically I have a higher probability of injuring myself in the process. Well, it happened again.

There is a silver lining to having a training injury. You get to learn that either you’ve been pushing yourself too hard in a certain way and/or learn something new to look out for. In this case it was a bike wreck and now I know to really slow down on wooden bridges covered in duck shit. At least it was in the last half mile of the workout and I could eventually ride back to the truck.

Nothing was broken. The arm I landed on was x-rayed. How I landed meant this is the first time I have bruised ribs and that is a whole different bag of pain. The sports medicine practice I go to for injuries didn’t have the experience or equipment to do the chest x-rays, but they mentioned if I had broken a rib I would have been screaming in pain, so there is that. This is probably the second time in my life where the pain was so bad it would wake me up at night.

I’m slowly getting better and aim to get back to training by the end of the week. As long as I move slowly and deliberately I can minimize the pain. Everything is a learning experience.
